KATIE WOODY

I have been passionate about fitness and music from a young age, which is one of the many reasons why Physique Fitness is truly my dream job. My elementary and high school years were filled with hours of tennis, softball, swimming, track and basketball. During my college years, I decided to go a different route and, as a classically trained French horn player, spent my time in band, orchestra and various wind ensembles. My career in the fitness industry began in 2005 when, much to my parent’s dismay, rather than continue to attend law school, I decided to pursue a career as a fitness instructor. I worked my way through graduate school teaching fitness. After graduate school, upon getting my first grown up job as a marketing director, I continued to teach. Eventually teaching three nights a week turned into owning. Fast forward ten years, I was married to my wonderful husband with two beautiful kids and was working crazy hours between my fitness business and working at my husband’s law office. As a mom of two kids under the age of two, I felt overwhelmed, overworked and lost. Enter Physique Fitness. I was invited by a friend and was sold on trying a class when she said they had amazing childcare. The first time I walked through the doors of Physique, I had no idea that I was about to meet the most amazing group of people who would grow to be, not just my fitness family, but such amazing friends that I consider them family. Darby jokes, "it was love at first sight," and I couldn’t have said it better myself! Darby provides the most amazing environment for her instructors that makes it possible to connect with clients in a way that is unlike anything I had ever seen. When she approached me about teaching, it was a no-brainer that Physique Fitness was where I was meant to be. Now, three years later, I am still amazed at how it is possible to love Physique more and more every time I walk in the door.

Both our clients and my fellow instructors never cease to amaze me. Simply stated, they are just the coolest group of people around. Women and men of all ages, fitness levels and different walks of life come together to form this beautiful, sometimes dysfunctional family that words just can’t describe. Not a single one of us is perfect, but the loving, supportive and judgement free zone is something that can only be explained by experiencing it for yourself. To those who have never been to Physique Fitness, it may seem like just a place to workout. Don’t get me wrong, we do workout and we work hard. The amazing physical results and fun, consistently challenging classes are just two of the many great things about this place that has become like my second home. As an instructor, I am constantly challenged to be a better version of myself because of the exceptionally high standards set by my fellow instructors and because of the grace, beauty, strength and determination of our clients.

Three years later, am I still sometimes overwhelmed from the demands of being a mom and overworked from my office job? Sometimes, but when I walk through door of Physique, whether I am there to teach or take class, all the stress from the outside world just seems to melt away. We celebrate the good times together and support each other when things aren’t so good. No matter the day or time, we always manage to have fun! The first time I walked through the doors, I had no idea how much my life was about to change.  I encourage you to take that first step and come try a class. Take an hour of your day, just for you and come see what we are all about. I promise you won’t regret it!
